   THE WAY

Rusty McCulloh, M.D.

Rusty attended the University of Missouri - Columbia as an undergraduate and received a BS in biology as well as a BA in history with departmental honors, graduating magna cum laude.  After graduation, Rusty entered medical school at the University of Missouri - Columbia with the intention of pursuing a primary care career.  During his first and second years of medical school, Rusty was employed with the Missouri Lions Eye Research Foundation as an Organ Retrieval Technician and as an EKG technician.  His volunteer activities include service as assistant HIV coordinator for the Boone County Health Department, assistant to the Medical Director of the Family Health Center, and Medical Staff Volunteer at Camp Hickory Hill - Central Missouri Diabetes Camp.

He also volunteers in the community on the Missouri Stream Team working with elementary school children to help keep Columbia's parks and green spaces litter-free.  While employed in a lamprey laboratory, he also gained valuable research experience.  Rusty has participated in Healthcare quality and safety research at the MU Center for Clinical Effectiveness since becoming a resident.
He attended a major Healthcare Safety conference earlier this year with funds from the Clarion Award.  Rusty sits on a couple of hospital committees devoted to patient safety and is our current House Staff Officer President. Rusty anticipates practicing Hospitalist Medicine after graduation, and is looking into a combined fellowship in pediatric and medical critical care.
