Katina will be leaving for SUNY-Downstate
MC in Brooklyn, New York to begin her fellowship in Pediatric
Gastroenterology. |

Katrina’s family
immigrated to the United States from Vietnam in 1975. After excelling
in the sciences as a child, Katrina developed an interest in medicine
through volunteer experiences in the ER and NICU. She attended college
at the University of California - Irvine and was active in research,
participating in the development of a quantitative ELISA to measure
insulin auto-antibodies. |

| Katrina was
recruited to our program after thriving at the American University of
the Caribbean School of Medicine. During her tenure here, she
served as the driving force for our residency program’s involvement in
the Community Access to Child Health (CATCH) initiative.
Her CATCH grant was used to perform free health screenings and raise
healthcare awareness and access in indigent areas of Columbia. As a
third year, Katrina was chosen for a poster presentation at the annual
AAP national conference. Her poster was entitled “McArdle’s Disease in
a 23 year old.” In her last year, Katrina also served as a Pediatrics
Chief Resident. After graduation, Katrina is going to the State
University of New York in Brooklyn for a fellowship in Pediatric
Gastroenterology. Katrina’s research interests include functional
abdominal diseases. Katrina is
currently preparing to enter a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology.
Katrina’s passionate drive to help those around her has served as a
constant inspiration to her fellow residents. |
