Salaries
Our salaries are quite competitive, especially when
you take into account the low cost of living associated with residing in
a Midwest town like Columbia. Salaries are adjusted yearly in
order to correspond with the mean resident incomes across the nation.

Vacation
We allow the ACGME’s maximum
possible vacation time, which equates to 4 weeks per year. These are
taken as two separate two week blocks, one while rotating through
internal medicine and the other during a pediatrics rotation.
Insurance
Medical and dental benefits are very
competitive. Residents and their families may choose
medical/dental/long-term disability/life insurance from plans available
on a cost-sharing basis through University Healthcare.
Malpractice insurance is covered for
residents at no charge.
Disability and Life insurance are
also available through the University at low cost.
Retirement Plans
Residents may choose to enter into
401(k) and 403 (b) plans through the University.
Parking
Our parking garage is very
conveniently located within forty feet from the University Hospital
itself. You will not need shuttles and will have no long walks to get
your car during those rainy days or winter months. In fact, there
is a tunnel that takes you directly into the hospital as well as the VA
from the parking garage.

Resident Lounge
The University Hospital recently constructed a
resident lounge area that is stocked with food and beverages 24 hours a
day, 7 days a week free of charge. This includes soft drinks, a
variety of juices, coffee, tea, and milk. |
 |
 |
| There is also a sandwich bar
that is restocked daily and provides side dishes such as potato
salad, crab salad, pudding, and a variety of breads. There
is also a featured hot soup for lunch. Hot breakfast is
served every weekday morning in addition to the pastries and
fresh fruit. |
| There are a number of microwave dishes
for after hours meals including macaroni and cheese, soup bowls,
and hot pockets. The lounge also serves as a gathering
place for residents from all departments so that you can relax
and enjoy the company of your colleagues. There are also
computers available and a big screen TV that can be enjoyed from
leather couches. |
 |
We also have the benefit of having a separate pediatrics
lounge that has its own computers, refrigerator, microwave, and TV/DVD
player.
