Conferences
Our residents have the luxury of
being able to attend (and present!) some of the finest educational
conferences in the medical school.
As med/peds residents we have access to the
pediatric problem
|
conferences, morbidity and mortality conferences,
child health and internal medicine grand rounds, noon
lectures from attending physicians in both departments, and an almost
infinite variety of subspecialty conferences. In addition to
educational seminars in each department, the Med/Peds residents and
faculty provide several unique teaching forums as well.

Med/Peds problem conference
Med/Peds problem conference is one
of the most respected resident driven conferences in the medical
school. Once a month, one of our residents presents a case of interest
to the faculty, residents, and students in both the departments of
internal medicine and child health. The presentation is traditionally
very well attended. During the presentation, faculty are encouraged to
discuss all aspects of the case, such as differential diagnosis,
physical findings, appropriate laboratory evaluation, and disease
pathogenesis and prognosis. Physicians from other departments such as
pathology, radiology, or surgery are invited if it is appropriate for
the educational purpose of the case. Many valuable teaching points are
uncovered.
Med/Peds Grand Rounds
Med/Peds Grand Rounds is an intermittently event beginning in 2006. The residents and faculty invite a
speaker to present current issues within a topic of interest and
everyone from both departments is welcome to attend.
Core Curriculum Conference
In July 2005, we added a new conference to our
curriculum. It is held each Wednesday from 12-1300. Each
conference has assigned reading from MedSudy and PedStudy board review
series. The appointed leader for that week make up a quiz that is
placed on the Med/Peds Intranet site and taken by all of us.
During the conference we discuss any number of readings including:
Journal Watch - General, Journal Watch - Pediatrics and Adolescent
Medicine, The Medical Letter, and the NEJM Chief Resident's Bulletin.
The goal of this combination of readings is to help improve Boards
scores while at the same time keeping our residents up to date with the
latest information in our field.
Med/Peds Clinic
Conference/Journal Club
Starting with the 2004/2005
academic year, we are having a monthly clinic conference/journal club.
This is a one hour conference over the lunch hour during which the
Med/Peds residents and faculty get together and discuss topics and
pertinent current research articles that are relevant to both fields.
We try to aim for subject matter that encompasses most of the common
problems encountered in a Med/Peds clinic.
Med/Peds Monthly Meeting
Our monthly meeting is not
necessarily an educational conference, but an opportunity for us to
share experiences and reorganize our goals. A casual atmosphere invites
residents to share their honest opinions and help guide the Med/Peds
residency program to continue to provide the best educational experience
possible. Lunch is always provided.
