Continuity Clinics
Our residents enjoy one-half day each week
in their own Med/Peds continuity clinic. These continuity clinics are the
resident's chance to build and maintain an outpatient practice which serves as a model for our future practices. We have several
preceptors with very different clinic populations ranging from indigent
care to a private Med/Peds practice. This is a great way for our residents to
see how different practitioners have developed and cultivated their own unique
"style" of practicing medicine. Our continuity attendings also provide guidance
with multiple resident concerns and questions such as establishing and running
a practice to interviewing for jobs. A half-day schedule ideally includes
3-4 patients for interns, 4-5 patients for 2nd and 3rd year residents and up to
7 patients for 4th year residents. These visits are made up of well-child
checks, yearly physicals for adults, well women exams, minor procedures,
follow-up of chronic medical issues, and a plethora of ill visits.
During the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th years
of residency training, residents may choose a second half-day of outpatient
continuity clinic. This clinic may be a general practice or subspecialty
clinic. It is possible to
choose a preceptor in adolescent medicine, infectious disease, pulmonary,
gastroenterology, genetics, development, or almost any other specialty you can
imagine.
Family Health Center
|
Dr. Andrew Quint is Med/Peds preceptor at the Family Health
Center; he takes up to five residents for continuity clinic
and hosts residents for their outpatient Med/Peds rotation. The Family Health
Center provides medical and mental health care for the entire family, with
services to uninsured and underinsured patients as well as those covered by
Medicare or Medicaid. |
 |
|
At the Family Health Center, charges are
based on each individual's ability to pay and no one is refused
care for financial reasons. |
 |
The medical staff includes Med/Peds and Family Medicine physicians as well as
certified family nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, RNs, LPNs, and
clinical social workers. Dr. Quint has made the clinic at the Family Health
Center one of the most beloved experiences for many of the residents. FHC
is located 10 minutes northwest of UMHC. |

Green Meadows
Clinic
|
Med/Peds residents rotate through the general pediatrics
clinic at Green Meadows one or two blocks during their residency. This is
a wonderful opportunity to hone their clinic pediatric skills. Visits
include well-child checks, sick visits, and hospital follow-ups. Green
Meadows is staffed by a multitude of general pediatricians providing many
different insights and approaches to pediatric care. Noon conferences are
attended via teleconference. Residents work five days a week and alternate
Saturday morning clinic. |

Fairview
Internal Medicine Clinic
|
Each Med/Peds resident spends 1-2 blocks during their
residency at the Fairview Internal Medicine Clinic. The
block is designed to expose residents to traditional outpatient
internal medicine. |
 |
|
Residents have the opportunity to work with multiple UMH
internal medicine attendings. One sees a wide range of patients and
pathology and becomes proficient in both management of chronic medical issues
and urgent care. Fairview is located five minutes from UMHC at the corner
of Fairview and Broadway. |
